Election in New Zealand

Last weekend New Zealand went to the polls after having to delay the election, the original date being in August. The result was a resounding victory for the Labour Party and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who became a surprise winner at the previous elections and quickly gained attention for being young, female and dynamic all around the world. She demonstrated positive and strong leadership in a time where negative and conservative politics continued to gain strength in many places around the world. Her government’s responses to both good and bad events were also widely praised and her re-election was no surprise – only the margin of the win, which gave her party almost a clear majority, left quite a few of her opponents in shock.
