Shrines are popular

Our hopes and prayers go out to all who were affected by the recent typhoons. We all wish for a speedy recovery.
Recently, shrines in Japan have become even more popular with foreign visitors. Some shrines have responded to this by including more foreign language options to visitors, such as fortune telling (known as omikuji) and staff who can offer explanations in English, Chinese and Korean.
I always wear kimono and visit a shrine on New Year’s Day every year. Despite feeling the cold air around the collar of my kimono, I always feel good when making the visit. There are many experiences like this I would like foreign visitors to discover in Japan.
